QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

It’s pleasing to report that we have been blessed with great sea conditions with the inshore water temperature down to 22deg.which has had some effect on catches, not so for the snapper. Catches are still coming from the Leads into the coal jetties and further south along the Beverly Island Group and the shoals around Curlew Island. North Overfall is producing trevally, Spanish and jewfish on flesh baits while South Overfall is producing trevally and jewfish. Trout numbers are better around the Inshore Islands than further out in the Channel. The best Spanish catches while trolling gar are coming from Wigton, the nearby Northern Patch, Calder and Parker Reef. You’ll need to get your catch in as quick as possible before the sharks need is greater than yours. Bluey and fingermark have recorded catches from Glendower Point while jigging jerkbaits. Keep the crabpots working in your favourite fishing creek, mullet head bait is the stand out performer. Flathead catches dominate the creeks using yabby bait. One unusual method but with great effect has been rigging a paternoster rig with a yabby on the bottom hook and 2” plastic grub in motor oil colour on the top hook. Who would of thought.

Good Luck.
