QLD Fishing Report
Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:
For another week snapper have made their presents around the bommies of Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay, Prudhoe, Overfalls and the Curlews Group. Squid and pilchard definitely the favoured bait. Spanish mackerel season continue to be a good one with fish coming of the Patch near Wigton, Hesket Rock and nearby Aspatria. Trolled gar, slimy mackerel and saury are getting results. Smaller days tides the next few days will suit the channel fisherman for their hunt for nannygai, red emperor, trout and sweetlip. The usual pilchard and squid bait goes well however mantis shrimp and fish wings can improve the quality of your catch. Constant Creek is the place for mangrove jack working submerged mangrove snags with 3” minnow plastic lures. McCredie’s Creek has produced whiting up to 36cm using squid strips and yabbies. The Pioneer River is holding whiting as well, towards the end of the week fish upstream of the Hospital Bridge with worm bait. Constant, Murray and the Pioneer when fished are worth setting the crabpots as well. Bassett Basin yabby beds have re appeared for a prime whiting bait.
Good Luck.
