QLD Fishing Report
Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:
It’s amazing what transpires when all the planets line up. We’ve just come of the longest spell of gorgeous weather this year which has resulted in offshore anglers bagging out in nannygai (squid and pilchard bait) and Spanish mackerel (trolled lures) while grass emperor, stripy, red throat emperor, trevally and cod made up the balance. All this come from the outer Islands and in particular the shipping channel. Some ventured further through the reefs and results were similar. We are having one of the best starts to our snapper season for quite some years. The reefs and shoals of the coal terminals very productive also Prudhoe and Knight Island of Sarina. Gun bait is herring, squid, pilchard and jerkbait soft plastics lures, don’t forget snapper respond well to burley. School and spotty mackerel are working the current lines inshore, feed them pilchard on gang hook. Blue salmon numbers are improving over the kings with Rocky Dam and the Dawsons stand out places using herring and bucktail jigs. Fingermark from Glendower Point and Rabbit Island while whiting and flathead have been wide spread over the sand flats and beaches, thankfully the yabby beds are very productive making pumping bait a lot easier.
