The Goldsmiths Islands 17nm N/E of Seaforth, is a good spot that provides shelter from weather events also produces anglers with catches of sweetlip, trout, cod and trevally mainly on pilchard or squid bait also a mackerel hotspot when the season is firing. Further east a hotspot for grunter and grassy emperor during the winter season is on Geranium Shoals and further south of Mackay Harbour, Oom shoals fished on very small tides. There’s a spur that runs S/E of Bailey Island is a good one for the bigger grunter this time off year, again herring bait or soft plastic 9cm vibes jigged of the bottom. A few jacks have showed up in the creeks and structures in the Pioneer River, preferred bait at the moment is live or fresh herring. A handful of blue salmon have been taken of Seaforth Beach at night while the odd king are still being caught in Constant and Murray. Some anglers have had success using live prawn for barra in Murray Ck and good to see the sooty grunter are responding to 7cm hard bodied and 9cm soft vibes lures along the upper reaches of the Pioneer and Cattle Ck, Teemburra and Eungella Dam.
