QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

By all reports from anglers who ventured well offshore whether they were on private or charter boats, the fish that dominated the trip was, and still is coral trout. Pilchard being the favoured bait fished beside reef edges in 20m of water. The current line has moved closer to the heads of the harbour which has seen schools of herring up against the wall and Harbour entrance which in turn bring the tuna and mackerel in closer within casting distance at least. Whiting catches are still the talk of the town including the lobby beds that have returned to their usual place in the Cremorne area just a stone throw away from where the catches are made. The beds at the southern end of Illawong Beach is a good one when you’ve got the kids for help. Anyone who puts the effort in digging lobbies and trekking across Sandy Creek into the mouth of Alligator have been rewarded with 35 to 45cm grunter, worth the effort I’d say. Most people crabbing are reporting 2-3 crabs after setting the pots overnight so still worth it.

Good Luck.
