QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

The Pioneer River produced numbers of whiting, grunter and the odd flathead to anglers who fished the night tides between the Forgan Smith Bridge and Cullen Island. The mouth of Bakers Creek has the numbers for yellowtail trevally fish with prawn or lobby baits. Our first run of blue (queen) salmon is expected anytime along the gutters and holes in Dawsons, Rocky Dam, Reliance, Constant and Murray Ck. They will be feeding on herring gar and mullet strips. Freshwater Point is proven to be popular for grunter, bluies and trevally and it won’t be to long before the spotty and school mackerel come in closer to the rocky shoreline for the Landbased anglers. Boaties are already accessing the schools of mackerel and longtail tuna around Irving Island and nearby Phillips Reef. The next couple of days sees the last of the small tides so it’s a good time for the Landbased anglers to fish the current lines that clip the rock walls and headlands not forgetting offshore amongst the deep water out at the shipping channel for large mouth nannygai and sweetlip.

Good Luck.
