QLD Fishing Report

Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:

Another week of hot Northerlies and mackerel action has anglers with mixed emotions, however the forecast of rain will not only cool things down but bring the creeks to life, speaking of which the grunter are rowed up at present and they can be found along the sand gutters in the creeks near St Helens, Murray, Constant. Slab ribbonfish, gar and squid makes up bait selection along with 50-60mm soft vibes. School, spotty mackerel and a few longtail and mack tuna mixed up with them are the go too species inshore. It has been noted that the bigger size fish are seen of Mackay and Northwards, with the smaller size being found of Sarina. Whitsunday and Mackay Gamefishing clubs are holding their tournaments over this and next weekend, and as I reported on the sightings and bait schools last week timing is perfect. The trout and sweetlip numbers are good around the inner reefs in 15-20m of water while the better nannygai have come from the deeper water along the shipping channel. The hot condition have been good for the barras in the dams with a late afternoon and night bite happening then it’s all over by 10pm. 5” Reflextion plastic along with non rattle (silent) hard vibes working well. Another reminder that the River Street boat ramp is closed till 1st week of December due to an upgrade. Looking forward to the improvement which will make it family friendly.

Good Luck.
