QLD Fishing Report
Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:
A bit of catch up for offshore fisherman over the last week. There has been the odd day where the seas have allowed anglers out to where they want to be this time of year and that’s the outer Islands, Shipping Channel and Reefs. The Spanish mackerel are still holding up around Chauvel, Coles and Southampton Reefs. Nannygai still dominate the bottom fish category along the Shipping Channel with more productive areas being half to three quarters across the channel. Grass sweetlip catches have been on the increase around the Islands and inner reefs. Goldsmiths, Calder and Prudhoe Island has seen some action. Knight Island worth a visit for queenfish and trout while Lloyd Shoal and Double Island will get you a Spanish or two. Our very own Pioneer River is cleaning up nicely with that familiar blue look about it until the next lot of rain that is, then tarpon, catfish and trevally will make the most of the dirty conditions. Whiting worth a fish around the sand flats near Cullen Island while the water is clean. Slade Point and Shoal Point Beach the pick of them for a whiting and flathead. King salmon can be found over the sand flats in Constant and Murray. In the freshwater water impoundments sooty grunter have taken over from the barra in captures, namely in Teemburra and Eungella, technique has been slow rolling soft vibes with the odd twitch.
