QLD Fishing Report
Brought to you by Compleat Angler Mackay:
Recent rain has our local creeks and rivers all running dirty, that will start clearing now that the bigger tides associated to the full moon have passed along with the calmer conditions this weekend. It was pleasing to see squid catches return during that full moon cycle. Inside the Marina and of the tip off the Breakwater are the spots. Conventional prawn shaped squid jigs, 2.5 – 3 size, favoured colours are pink, green, orange, suspended under a float or a slow roll retrieve with the occasional rod twitch, gets results, remembering to work the edges off light covering the water. To find the cleaner water offshore you will have to travel 24nm + to Wigton, Scawfell, Knight Island distance for a catch of mackerel around the current lines. With all our weirs flowing, a hunt for a sooty in the upper reaches of the Pioneer River and Cattle Creek is still a good option when working the banks with poppers or suspending lures. While you won’t need a freshwater fishing permit for those areas, you will when fishing the 63 Qld stocked dams that have a local fish stocking group associated to them. From the 1/7/16 you now get a digital permit when done online at participating outlets, DPI or AusPost. Also everyone over the age of 18 is required to have a permit, no married/defacto setup anymore. This permit is instantly e-mailed or sent via sms to you when applied for. Good Luck!
